New Moon Astrology 2026–2027: Dates, Signs and Meaning

At a new moon the Sun and Moon line up in the same sign and the Moon is dark. Astrologers read it as a beginning: a good time to set an intention for the month ahead.

Times are Eastern Time. Phase times use Jean Meeus’s Astronomical Algorithms (to within a minute or two), the Moon’s sign and degree come from our chart engine, and eclipses are found with Meeus’s eclipse method; very faint penumbral eclipses can be missed.

How to use a new moon

A new moon happens once a month, when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and its lit side faces away from us. Traditionally it is a time for beginnings: a plan, a habit, a fresh page.

Many people mark it by writing one intention in a single sentence and keeping it somewhere visible for the next four weeks. The sign the new moon falls in suggests what kind of beginning suits it.

When a new moon falls close to the Moon’s nodes it becomes an eclipse. Astrologers treat eclipses as louder versions of the same theme, with effects said to unfold over the following months.
