How we calculate it
We reduce the month, the day and the year of birth separately to a single digit, keeping 11, 22 or 33 when a part reduces to one of them. Then we add the three results and reduce the total to a single digit, unless it is 11, 22 or 33. For 29 July 1990: the month gives 7; the day gives 2 + 9 = 11, which we keep; the year gives 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 0 = 1. The total is 7 + 11 + 1 = 19, which reduces to 1. Traditions differ on these steps; we apply this one consistently.
