Aquarius and Pisces

The last two signs of the zodiac share an interest in things larger than themselves, whether a community, a cause, an art form or a spiritual question. As neighbors on the wheel, Aquarius and Pisces share neither element nor modality, so their approaches differ sharply even when their values align.

Aquarius is fixed air, traditionally ruled by Saturn and in modern astrology by Uranus: cerebral, independent, principled and future-minded. Pisces is mutable water, traditionally ruled by Jupiter and in modern astrology by Neptune: intuitive, empathetic, imaginative and fluid. Aquarius cares for humanity through ideas and action; Pisces cares through compassion and feeling. Both accept difference and both dislike judgment. Together they can be kind, creative and quietly idealistic, though often slightly out of sync.

Communication

Aquarius communicates through logic, ideas and blunt honesty; Pisces through feeling, intuition and suggestion. Aquarius may find Pisces vague or overly emotional, and Pisces may find Aquarius detached or abrupt. Yet both are open-minded and curious. Conversations about art, spirituality, society or the future can bring them together beautifully, especially when Aquarius listens for feeling and Pisces states needs clearly.

Affection

Aquarius shows affection through loyalty, acceptance and friendship; Pisces through tenderness, romance and devotion. Pisces may want more emotional closeness than Aquarius naturally gives, while Aquarius may want more independence than Pisces expects. Both are generous and nonjudgmental, though, and when each learns the other's language, the affection between them can feel gentle and accepting. Aquarius's steadiness can be a quiet comfort to Pisces in turn.

Friction

Head versus heart is the core tension. Aquarius's detachment can leave Pisces feeling lonely or misunderstood, while Pisces's emotional needs and moods can overwhelm Aquarius. Aquarius's fixed opinions may clash with Pisces's changeable nature.
