The North Node in Aquarius is the stretch from July 26, 2026 to March 26, 2028 when the Moon's North Node moves through Aquarius and the South Node, always opposite, moves through Leo. Astrologers read it as a collective shift from the personal spotlight toward the group: from "what do I want to be seen for?" to "what can we build together?" It also sets the signs of the eclipses, which fall on the Leo-Aquarius axis through these years.
If you were born with the North Node in Aquarius, that's a different, personal placement; our guide to the North Node in astrology covers the natal reading for every sign. This piece is about the transit everyone is living through now.
North Node in Aquarius dates
The nodes are calculated points, not planets, and chart software offers two versions. We checked both against an ephemeris.
- True node: enters Aquarius on July 26, 2026 in the Americas (early on July 27 in Europe and further east), and leaves for Capricorn on March 26, 2028.
- Mean node: a smoothed average that differs by a few weeks. It enters Aquarius on August 18, 2026 and leaves on March 7, 2028.
Many astrologers and chart sites use the true node; either is a fair choice. Before Aquarius, the North Node spent January 11, 2025 to July 26, 2026 in Pisces, with the South Node in Virgo. After March 2028 it moves on to Capricorn, with the South Node in Cancer.
The nodes move backward through the zodiac, which is why Aquarius follows Pisces. They take about 18.6 years to go all the way round, so they spend roughly eighteen months in each pair of signs. The last North Node in Aquarius ran from December 2007 to August 2009; before that, May 1989 to November 1990.
What the nodes are, in one paragraph
The Moon's orbit is tilted about five degrees to the Sun's apparent path, the ecliptic. The two places where the Moon crosses that path are the nodes: the North Node where it heads north, the South Node where it heads south. They matter to astronomers because eclipses can only happen near them, and to astrologers because they're read as a direction of growth (the North Node) and a habit or comfort zone (the South Node). As a transit, the pair describes a shared lesson in the air for everyone.
North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo
Aquarius is the fixed air sign of groups, friendship, invention, reform and the future. Its traditional ruler is Saturn and its modern ruler Uranus, and our page on Aquarius traits covers the sign itself. Leo, opposite, is the fixed fire sign of the self, creativity, pride, romance and the stage, ruled by the Sun.
With the North Node in Aquarius, astrologers describe the growth edge as:
- Contribution over applause. Doing work that helps a group, a cause or a community, even when your name isn't on it.
- Friendship as a priority. Investing in networks and chosen family, not only in romance or one standout relationship.
- Thinking ahead. Long-range plans, new ideas and experiments that might not pay off for years.
- Fair systems. Rules and tools that work for everyone in the room.
And the South Node in Leo describes the familiar place to move beyond, not to abandon:
- The need to be the star. Personal recognition and the pull of attention for its own sake.
- Taking things personally. Pride that makes it harder to cooperate.
- Creative gifts you already have. Leo's warmth, courage and talent are the resources you bring to the group. The aim is balance, not giving them up.
In practice astrologers often describe these eighteen months as good for joining, organizing, volunteering, collaborating and finding your people, and as a time when a purely solo push for the spotlight can feel oddly flat.
The eclipses of the Leo-Aquarius nodes
Because eclipses happen only near the nodes, the nodal signs set the eclipse signs. These were checked against NASA's eclipse tables, with the signs from our ephemeris:
- February 17, 2026: annular solar eclipse at 28 degrees Aquarius, the first of the new axis.
- August 12, 2026: total solar eclipse at 20 degrees Leo.
- February 6, 2027: annular solar eclipse at 17 degrees Aquarius.
- August 2, 2027: total solar eclipse at 10 degrees Leo, with more than six minutes of totality at its longest.
Lunar eclipses fall between them, some still on the old Virgo-Pisces axis. Our guide to eclipse season lists all of them with their visibility, and our pieces on solar eclipses and lunar eclipses explain how astrologers read each kind.
Nodal returns and reversals
When the nodes come back to their birth positions, roughly every 18.6 years, astrologers call it a nodal return and read it as a moment of renewed direction. If you were born between December 2007 and August 2009, May 1989 and November 1990, November 1970 and April 1972, or March 1952 and October 1953, your natal North Node is in Aquarius and this transit is your nodal return.
If you were born with the North Node in Leo, between October 1998 and April 2000 or between May 2017 and November 2018, the transiting nodes are reversed from your natal ones. Astrologers describe that as a time of tension between old habits and new directions. A free birth chart shows your natal node by sign and house.
North Node in Aquarius by rising sign
In whole-sign houses, the rising sign decides which houses the nodes cross. The North Node shows the area astrologers say is asking for growth; the South Node, opposite, the area where you can rely less on old habits.
- Aries rising: North Node in the eleventh (friends, groups), South Node in the fifth (romance, creative ego).
- Taurus rising: tenth (career, public role), fourth (home and family).
- Gemini rising: ninth (study, travel, beliefs), third (daily chatter and errands).
- Cancer rising: eighth (shared resources, trust), second (your own money and comforts).
- Leo rising: seventh (partnerships), first (self and image). A year to share the stage.
- Virgo rising: sixth (daily work, useful routines), twelfth (retreat).
- Libra rising: fifth (creativity, joy), eleventh (group obligations).
- Scorpio rising: fourth (home, roots), tenth (career image).
- Sagittarius rising: third (learning, neighbors), ninth (big pronouncements).
- Capricorn rising: second (your own income and values), eighth (dependence on others).
- Aquarius rising: first (your own direction), seventh (living through partners). See our guide to Aquarius rising.
- Pisces rising: twelfth (rest, inner life), sixth (overwork).
Questions readers ask
How long is the North Node in Aquarius?
About twenty months by the true node, from July 26, 2026 to March 26, 2028. The mean node runs from August 18, 2026 to March 7, 2028.
What does the South Node in Leo mean?
It's read as the comfort zone of these months: the pull toward personal recognition, pride and doing things your own way. Astrologers suggest keeping Leo's warmth and creativity while putting them to work for something bigger than the self.
Which signs feel the North Node in Aquarius most?
Leo and Aquarius Suns, Moons and risings, especially when the nodes reach the degree of one of their planets: the late degrees of the signs in 2026, the middle degrees in 2027 and the first degrees early in 2028. Taurus and Scorpio placements at the same degrees are said to feel it as a square.
Is the North Node in Aquarius the same as being born with it?
No. A natal North Node in Aquarius is a lifelong placement read as personal growth. The transit is shared by everyone for a year and a half or so, and it's read through the houses it crosses in your own chart.
