Three of Pentacles
- teamwork
- craft
- collaboration
- skill
Good work built together; collaboration, craftsmanship and the value of each person's skill.
Upright
The Three of Pentacles is a card of skilled collaboration. Threes often show early growth, and in the practical suit that growth comes through teamwork and craft. Traditionally it shows a stonemason working in a cathedral while two figures, often read as an architect and a patron, consult plans. It signals cooperation, learning, quality work and recognition of skill.
In everyday life, this card might describe a project where different people's strengths combine well, a mentor reviewing your work, or a stage where your skills are starting to be noticed. It encourages you to value collaboration: share plans, ask for input and respect what others contribute. It also highlights craftsmanship, which means taking care over the details, learning from people more experienced, and doing the job properly rather than quickly. Good work becomes great when the right people build it together.
Reversed
Our draws are upright-only by default; some readers use reversals as a quieter, inward or blocked version of the card.
Reversed, the Three of Pentacles suggests friction in teamwork or work that isn't getting the care it needs. Communication may have broken down, roles may be unclear, or someone may be cutting corners. Get everyone back on the same page. Clarify who does what, and agree on the standard you're working toward.

Symbolism
The Three of Pentacles traditionally shows a craftsman standing on a bench in a stone archway, chisel in hand, while a monk and a figure holding building plans look on. Three pentacles are carved into the arch above them, and the setting suggests a cathedral under construction. Themes include skilled labor, cooperation, apprenticeship, quality and the recognition that comes from good work.
